This comforting crumble is simple and nourishing without being overly sweet. Leaving the skin on the fruit also helps to add more fibre. Serve with a dollop of plain Greek yoghurt for a delicious healthy dessert or mid-afternoon snack.

  • Make it dairy-free: Use coconut oil or a plant-based butter instead of regular butter.
  • For extra crunch: Sprinkle over some pumpkin or sunflower seeds before baking.

Ingredients

  • 4 pear (small) (chopped, skin on)
  • 2 apple (chopped, skin on)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup mixed nuts
  • ½ cup desiccated coconut
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 60 g butter (melted (or plant-based butter))

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan).
  2. Simmer pears, apples, water, and vanilla for 8 minutes until slightly softened.
  3. Transfer fruit to a baking dish.
  4. Pulse nuts to coarse powder, then mix with oats, coconut, cinnamon, maple syrup, and butter.
  5. Crumble topping evenly over fruit.
  6. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden.
  7. Cool slightly and serve, optionally with Greek yoghurt.
